Dear Dr. Barakat,

Do braces always have to be metal with colored rubber bands?

– Concerned Parent

Dear Concerned Parent,

Absolutely not! Orthodontics has come a long way, and you have several options. Metal braces with colored bands are very popular, especially with kids because they can customize them at each appointment. This adds an element of ownership and fun to their treatment! Other options that are available are ceramic or clear brackets as well as clear aligners, like Invisalign. Your orthodontist can determine if one method is better for your treatment over another.
