These classes will help your kids get on the road to culinary stardom, or maybe just be a little more self-sufficient after school. Who knows? Maybe, after a few classes, your next date night “dinner out” will be at home.

The Melting Pot[1] | Multiple Locations
A couple times a year, The Melting Pot offers Little Chefs! Recommended for ages 12 and under, your pint-sized chef-in-training will learn to fondue like a pro and even receive a souvenir kids’ size apron to take home!

Fran’s Cake & Candy[2] | Fairfax, VA
Children as young as 4-years old are invited to Fran’s Cake & Candy for cake- and cookie-decorating classes to create edible masterpieces! With monthly mommy and me options in addition to lessons for tweens and teens in a variety of fun themes, you’ll see why Fran’s classes truly are the icing on the cake!

Wegmans[3] | Multiple Locations
Yea! Another reason to make a trip to everyone’s favorite grocery store! Wegmans offers parent and child cooking classes in varying themes, such as Snack Attack and making the perfect queso. These one-hour classes are perfect to get your child started and build confidence in the kitchen.

Culinaria Cooking School[4] | Vienna, VA
This dedicated cooking school will expand your child’s palate with classes and camp for all ages. Dishes like coconut ice cream with grilled pineapple and seven layer dip will make everyone excited for homework.

Cookology[5] | Sterling, VA (& Arlington — coming soon!)
Fear not, oh nervous parents. Your kids will learn valuable knife and heat skills as well as measuring and recipe reading, all in a controlled environment. Cooking classes, summer camps, and even birthday parties are all options for your child with more menu options than you can shake a bread stick at.

Whole Foods Market[6] | Multiple Locations
As part of their efforts to inspire kids to learn to love fresh and whole foods, Whole Foods Market offers a variety of drop-in cooking classes and art activities for little ones each month! Events are offered via the Whole Foods Kids Club and include hands-on activities that range from sushi building to play-doh making! So head on over to America’s Healthiest Grocery Store and see what your little ones can create! Check your local Whole Foods Market for registration information as spots for these classes are limited.

Sur La Table[7] | Alexandria, VA[8] & Arlington, VA[9]
This favorite chef’s shop is more than just fancy gadgets and French linens. Each store offers plenty of cooking classes for you to hone your skills and for your kids to get started in the kitchen. Their main offering for the younger set is “The Science of Cooking” week-long class. Two times are available for ages 8-12 for the kid’s class and 13-17 for the teens. If you can’t make it to their stores, they also offer online classes in the comfort of your kitchen.

Williams-Sonoma[10] | Multiple Locations
Usually geared for ages 5-13, this gourmet kitchen store offers (often for free!) weekend cooking classes for kids. They are a great way to learn a skill or two and make new friends. Williams-Sonoma also offers cooking classes in partnership with American Girl dolls for a fee, such as making Grace’s Favorite Madeleines. Find your local class here[11].

Tiny Chefs[12] | Multiple Locations
This cooking program for kids has so much to offer — it is difficult to figure out where to start! They offer camps and classes, but also partner with local childcare organizations to provide multiple locations. Heck, they will even come to you and help you host a cooking party! They have classes designed for everyone from ages 4-14, check them out for a location and program close to home.

Sweet Signatures[13] | Sterling, VA
If the mention of cooking classes gets a groan from your kids, try candy making instead. Also fondly known as your chocolate haven, Monica, Sweet Signatures’ owner, began the venture in 2008 by turning her unapologetic chocoholism into a career. It was then that Sweet Signatures began its eight-year stretch of running entirely online, resulting in year-after-year of smashing success. Now you can visit them in-person at their shop in Sterling, VA. They often offer classes, workshops, and social — all geared around the sweet stuff!
