Enjoy George Washington’s Mount Vernon for Free!

This event has passed, but check out our calendar for fun today, this week, this month!

February is a big month for George Washington, our nation’s first President. It not only brings President’s Day but Mr. Washington’s birthday, too! Celebrate his legacy at George Washington’s Mount Vernon on February 19, 2018, with free admission.

Normally, admittance is fee-based; however, on this day enjoy free admission and special events, including all the opportunities you expect of this famous landmark and more. Witness a presidential tribute, featuring honored guests and a wreath laying at Washington’s Tomb; watch Continental soldiers conduct a marching drill, fire their guns, and charge at their enemy in a live military demonstration; enjoy character performances around the estate before sharing birthday cake with General Washington on the bowling green; and more! Click here to see the full schedule.

More than 85 million people have visited George Washington’s Mount Vernon since it officially opened to the public in 1860. In addition to the tomb of George and Martha Washington, Mount Vernon includes a memorial dedicated to the enslaved people who lived and worked on the estate, as well as interpretive spaces like the Pioneer Farm and George Washington’s Gristmill and Distillery. Through self-guided visits, formal tours, exhibits, and special events, a visit will help you better understand Washington’s ambitious and profitable business ventures.

Mt. Vernon tours include the Mansion, built in 1735 and expanded over five decades to 21 rooms (see a virtual tour here), outbuildings, gardens and grounds, heritage breed animals, Pioneer Farm, and more. Plan your visit here and see how much estimated time it will take for each feature.

George Washington’s Mount Vernon is open 365-days a year and is located at 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Hwy., Mount Vernon, VA 22121. Plan ahead and visit on a day with special events, including story times, Tribute at the Tomb, unique children’s activities, and more.
