Everyday Fun at Claude Moore Colonial Farm

Opened in 1973, The Claude Moore Colonial Farm at Turkey Run portrays family life on a small, low-income farm just prior to the Revolutionary War. Children and adult visitors are able to participate in daily activities of an 18th-century family farm. The self-guided tours, horticulture programs, and educational programs represent colonial architectural history of a Northern Virginia family in 1971. Be sure to check the events page often to see when the special events are held.

During the third full weekends in May, June, and October, the Colonial Market Fair hosts more than 250 volunteer period craftsmen, entertainers, and merchants. Families (ages 6+) are welcome to participate in the weekend-long Colonial Living Experience where everyone is immersed in the life of an 18th-century farm family (check here for dates, cost, and details). For ages 10 to 17, the Junior Interpreter Program allows junior volunteers in assisting adult interpreters on the farm.

Stop by the Gatehouse shop which includes museum reproductions and jewelry, along with market fair merchandise, books, games, toys, local fruit preserves and fruit butters, educational items, and more. The farm also boasts the opportunity to see heirloom varieties of crops and heritage breeds of livestock that are rarely seen on farms in Virginia today.

Open from April through December, The Claude Moore Colonial Farm provides special events, programs, and educational opportunities for the entire family to enjoy. The Claude Moore Colonial Farm is located at 6310 Georgetown Pike, McLean, VA 22101, (703) 442-7557.
