Now that your kids have gone back to school and everyone is back into a routine, there is plenty of time to work on projects around the house, right? Ha! If only!
The Cristina Dougherty & Associates team know that time is a precious commodity, so we talked to Tracy Morris of Tracy Morris Designs and got five ideas to spruce up various areas of your home without zapping up a ton of time:
1. Give a small area of your home a facelift!
Do you have a powder room, laundry room, or even your front door that just needs a new look? Here are Tracy’s recommendations for two of the hottest Benjamin Moore paint colors this Fall you can use to transform these small areas in a weekend: Country Redwood and Dark Harbor.
2. Impress your holiday guests with a beautiful new headboard!
Do you have family coming into town to help celebrate the holidays? Impress them with a little bit of luxury with a new headboard in the guest room. Bonus points if you leave them a little tray of goodies like body gel or festive candies to enjoy during their stay.
Here’s a link to a great option from Pottery Barn. And, for you DIY people out there — you can use it as inspiration to do your own! There are plenty of sites online that provide easy directions on how to do a headboard yourselves.
3. Create a new, comfy seating area!
Still using the furniture from your newlywed days? Maybe you just want a new look for your living room…sometimes a new sofa can totally change the look and feel of a room. A quick design tip from Tracy — huge oversized couches can make a room feel small and cramped. Having a smaller sofa can still provide the seating you need without the issue of having to climb over the furniture to get in and out of the room.
Here is a smaller but very functional (and beautiful) option — and who doesn’t love Crate & Barrel?
4. The kids spill paint or fruit juice again the playroom? No problem with this wipeable flooring!
Get a functional flooring option without sacrificing style. There are so many looks and sizes to choose from — definitely something for everyone!
5. Gloves, boots, and hats, oh my!
If you are like us, you know the time of year is coming where all the winter gear ends up in a heap on the floor. Tracy recommends (for those of us who don’t have a dedicated mudroom) refreshing your entryway to include elements of both form and function. Wayfair has some great options, or just use this and this as inspiration images to pick pieces just right for your space!
So there you have it: a few ways to change up the look and feel of different areas of your home in time for the holidays! And these projects do not require a ton of cash or time. If you end up picking one or all of these projects, please send us the results! Our contact info is below — we would love to hear from you!
