Dear Dr. Barakat,
My daughter is interested in getting Invisalign Teen to straighten her teeth. As a mom, I’m worried she won’t wear them as needed, or worse, she will lose them! Any advice?
— Concerned Parent
Dear Concerned Parent,
We love being able to offer our teen patients Invisalign. When a teen is a good candidate, there are many benefits to Invisalign Teen, including more comfort in playing musical instruments and sports, as well as no food restrictions. Because Invisalign Teen is removable, it makes brushing & flossing a breeze!
As a parent, I understand your concerns about the potential lack of wear and possible loss of the Invisalign. The great news is that in our practice, as well as in clinical studies, we have seen teens wear their aligners on average for just under 21 hours per day, exactly as recommended! The motivation to do a great job comes from not wanting to wear braces.
During our Invisalign Teen patients’ regular visits to our office, we evaluate their progress, and can easily determine if they are wearing their Invisalign as instructed, and as I said before, we have been very impressed by our teens!
In order to remove the stress of losing the Invisalign, we now have the ability to order a few replacement aligners at no charge to our patients.
So you see, it’s a win-win for all. If your teen is a good candidate for Invisalign Teen, don’t hesitate because of compliance concerns, we have you covered!
