We often think of Memorial Day as the unofficial kickoff to summer, but the Rolling Thunder First Amendment Demonstration Run serves as a unique and beautiful reminder of this holiday’s true meaning — to honor those who’ve given their lives in service to our country.
In 1988, the first Rolling Thunder Run, a motorcycle demonstration, was organized by several Vietnam Veterans to draw attention to the many POW/MIA’s left unaccounted for after the Vietnam War. That first year, 2,500 motorcycle riders participated, and the event has since grown to over a million riders and spectators combined. And every year, that rolling thunder of motorcycles can be heard reminding us never to forget those left behind.
Rolling Thunder’s First Amendment Demonstration Run takes place on May 27, 2018. Beginning at 12 noon, you’ll have the opportunity to see this unique, awe-inspiring event on various roads throughout the Washington, DC metro area. The run begins at the North Pentagon parking lot and ends in West Potomac Park, where they will pay tribute to their fallen brothers and sisters.
