Smithsonian Folklife Festival

This opportunity is over; visit our calendar for up-to-date fun!

More than 50 years strong, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival returns to Washington, DC, for almost two weeks of education, concerts, and fun from June 29-July 9, 2023 (closed July 5)!

Produced by the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, the festival celebrates and honors contemporary living cultural traditions and the individuals and groups who practice them.

Free and fun for all ages, the festival includes participants from all over the world and invites attendees to join in singing, dancing, crafting, and so much more! In addition, the Ralph Rinzler Main Stage will host music, dancing, and short films on select days. This is a great time to enjoy a picnic on the National Mall and experience favorite and new artists! Check out the full concert schedule online here.

The Folklife Festival now offers an online marketplace in collaboration with Novica. This virtual gift shop allows visitors to connect with artisans from around the globe while finding specially created pieces that honor the cultural heritage and skills of artisans worldwide. Shop 24/7 before, during, and after the festival is over!
