More than fifty years strong, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival returns to Washington, DC for two weeks of education and fun, June 27-July 1 and July 4-8, 2018 (no festival July 2-3)! Produced by the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, the festival celebrates and honors contemporary living cultural traditions and the individuals and groups who practice them.

Free for all ages, the festival includes participants from all over the world and invites attendees to join in with singing, dancing, crafting, and so much more! This year, the festival also offers a unique focus on Armenia and Catalonia, with opportunities to learn more about the creativity, traditions, and contributions of each culture!

Parade: Beasts, Big Heads, Giants, Human Towers, & More
Parades will be held throughout the festival weeks. Be ready to experience the creativity of the Catalan people at the Placa Major Stage!

Artisan Market
Don’t miss your chance to purchase traditional crafts for yourself or a loved one at the Folklife Festival’s Artisan Market! Meet master artists, see product demonstrations and workshops, or just embrace all that the market offers!

Hands-On Experiences for Kids
Each day at 11 am, children can visit the Artisan Market and participate in a craft or hear a story! Stamp an African textile pattern, create natural paints, or heart a story from one of the festival’s accomplished artists!

Green Fields of America Concert
The Green Fields of America showcases Irish American music and dance so get ready to step dance, jig, and enjoy the sounds of the banjo, mandolin, and fiddle!

The 2017 Smithsonian Folklife Festival will be held on the National Mall, between 7th and 12th streets. It will also be held in the Arts and Industries Building, which is located at 900 Jefferson Dr. SW, Washington, DC 20560.
