Don’t let the summer slip away without engaging your children in these local summer reading programs — most offer special incentives and prizes!
Prince William County Summer Reading Program
Kids and adults alike can join in the reading fun this summer! Come in a share what you are reading to earn awesome prizes. Be sure to stop in each week to participate in the Weekly Challenge for a chance to win even more prizes. The next adventure runs from June 11 through August 11, 2018.
Fairfax County Summer Reading Challenge
Register online beginning on June 15, 2018, for Fairfax County’s Summer Reading Challenge, and read, read, read for a chance to earn a coupon book full of great prizes including free and discounted items!
Loudoun County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program
Readers, get ready to go on a fun library adventure this summer with Loudoun County Public Library. Grab a challenge card from the library, complete the necessary tasks, and be entered into a drawing to win a $200 gift basket! There will be four winners from every branch, and the fun runs from June 14 through August 11, 2018.
Arlington County Public Library
Arlington County Public Libraries start their Summer Reading program for children 12-years-old and under on June 2, 2018! Register online with a parent or guardian’s permission, use the online or printed reading log to keep track of minutes read, and claim cool prizes all summer long (through September 2, 2018)! Plus, you’ll receive weekly book recommendations for young readers, too.
DC Public Library Summer Challenge
Keep your mind active this summer by reading 20 minutes a day as part of the DC Public Library Summer Challenge! Log your reading online, or grab a game board at your local library, and earn prizes on the 20th of each month through August! The challenge officially begins on June 1, 2018.
Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program
Read 8 books of your choice this summer and record it in your reading journal that you can get online. Children in grades 1-6, bring your journal into your local B&N store to choose a free book to keep! Find your local store to get started and bring your reading journal in any time between May 15 and September 3, 2018.
Books-A-Million Summer Reading Program 
Go on an exciting summer adventure with Books-A-Million (BAM)! Ready to get your child reading during school break, students can read any four books on the BAM Summer Reading Challenge list (available both in-store and online), complete the Summer Reading Challenge Journal, and return it to a participating Books-A-Million for a free prize. This year, participants will receive free pencils and a pencil case, thanks to the Summer Reading Challenge Ambassador, Mo Willems!
Chuck E. Cheese’s Reading Rewards
Chuck E. Cheese’s provides a variety of rewards calendars – including Reading Rewards – that are redeemable for free tokens on your next visit! Just download the calendar, mark the days off with a pen or sticker as your child accomplishes their goals and bring in the completed calendars to Chuck E. Cheese’s to receive ten free tokens.

Scholastic Summer Reading Program
Turn the “summer slide” into the “summer leap” with the Scholastic Summer Reading Program! Pizza Hut BOOK IT! Summer Reading Challenge

Sylvan Book Adventure
Kids in kindergarten through 8th grade will love creating their very own reading program with Sylvan Book Adventure! TD Bank Summer Reading Program
Invest, literally, in your child’s love of reading! With the TD Bank Summer Reading Program rewards, children from Kindergarten to 5th grade who read ten books during the summer will earn a $10 deposit into a new or an existing Young Saver account. Print the online form and bring it to your local TD Bank by August 31, 2018.
Scrawl Books Summer Reading Challenge
Waldo, with his infamous striped shirt and black-rimmed glasses, is visiting multiple businesses in the Reston and Herndon area this year but you have to find him! Head to Scrawl Books (in Reston or Herndon) or any one of the other participating sites and get a passport stamped for every Waldo you find! Receive at least twenty stamps and be entered into a grand-prize drawing to win a six-volume deluxe set of Waldo books!
Participants will also find a $5 gift coupon in their passport. These can be redeemed once children have completed the Fairfax County Public Library’s reading program!
