The Counter, a Great Choice for Families with Food Allergies

For families with food allergies, eating a meal out can be daunting at best and deadly at worst. From the staff not understanding or respecting the seriousness of your requests to the kitchen cross-contaminating preparation surfaces and equipment, the choice of restaurants narrows down considerably. However, in Northern Virginia we have The Counter!

The Counter, located at Reston Town Center, is the original premium, build-your-own-burger restaurant providing guests with more than a million possible combinations of burgers and burgers-in-a-bowl. Through a checklist-style menu, burger lovers can customize their own creations with high-quality ingredients, including hormone- and antibiotic-free beef, 100% all-natural chicken, housemade vegan veggie patties, organic bison, and more. But burgers aren’t your only choice. The Counter also serves up fresh salads, sandwiches, fries, shakes, and malts. See their full menu here.

Online and in-store, you can find a detailed allergen information list. Not just your everyday vegetarian or gluten-free menu, but a more comprehensive list including dairy, eggs, fish, soybeans, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, gluten, vegetarian, vegan, and low-fat. Plus, guests can rely on their knowledgeable staff and, more importantly, respectful staff with a clear line of communication with the kitchen.

Check out our recent photo review of a family meal with not just one, but three allergies including peanuts, dairy, and eggs. Our special family, who admittedly doesn’t eat out very often because of the seriousness of their allergies, was able to enjoy a family meal! The girls even asked to come back! With most kids able to drop-in at a local fast food joint without a second thought, having a choice, and a delicious one at that, is a treat.
