Trick-or-Treating at Mount Vernon

CalendarOctober Events

If you’re looking for a unique trick-or-treating experience this fall, make your way to George Washington’s Mount Vernon! On October 27, 2018, not only enjoy trick-or-treating, but participate in a special scavenger hunt, take a wagon ride in a 12-acre field, and create a “boo-tiful” Halloween craft! Plus, you’ll love the children’s costume parade around the Mansion with prizes awarded for the most “fang-tastic” George and Martha costumes!

Adults won’t be bored, either. Come and see wool carding, spinning, and fishnet making in the historic area before greeting “Martha Washington” on the piazza of the Mansion. Plus, historic chocolate-making demonstrations and tastings will take place! Buy your tickets here.

More than 85 million people have visited George Washington’s Mount Vernon since it officially opened to the public in 1860. In addition to the tomb of George and Martha Washington, the property includes a memorial dedicated to the enslaved people who lived and worked on the estate, as well as interpretive spaces, such as the Pioneer Farm and George Washington’s Gristmill & Distillery. All this is to better understand Washington’s ambitious and profitable business ventures.

Mt. Vernon also offers tours of the Mansion, built in 1735 and expanded over five decades to 21 rooms (see a virtual tour here), outbuildings, gardens and grounds, heritage breed animals, Pioneer Farm, and more! Plan your visit here and see how much estimated time it will take for each feature.

George Washington’s Mount Vernon is open 365 days a year and is located at 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Hwy., Mount Vernon, VA 22121. Plan ahead and visit on a day with special events, including Story Time in Hands-on-History, Tribute at the Tomb, special children’s activities, and more.
