Volunteer at Nationals Park! Cultivate the City (created to inspire healthy and sustainable living by empowering communities with tools and training for urban agriculture) is seeking volunteers to volunteer at the Nationals Park Rooftop Farm:

“Join us for a unique gardening opportunity at Nationals Park! We help maintain a rooftop farm at the stadium where the produce we grow is used in the food services & dining…”

Call for volunteers! The Hope & Serenity Farm Sanctuary is interested in engaging additional volunteers, ages 13 and older, to perform a variety of tasks at their working farm and private, nonprofit organization. The 11-acre sanctuary shelters approximately 200 animals that have been rescued from neglect, abandonment, or abuse.

Volunteers are needed seven days a week and can choose their schedules in terms of the number of days and amount of time committed. They must be able to work on the farm property unaccompanied by a parent or guardian. Volunteers will be guided and supervised by on-site staff. Those interested in volunteering must first register for a tour of the Hope & Serenity Farm Sanctuary. The tour will provide an opportunity for potential volunteers to see the 11-acre farm sanctuary as well as meet some of the sheltered animals, other volunteers, and staff. Following the tour, interested volunteers may schedule a Volunteer Orientation.


Are you (or someone you know) interested in forest ecology and ecological restoration? Do you like working independently in a forested setting? Frying Pan Farm Park is looking to fill four volunteer positions (ages 16 and up) for their forest restoration project, including 1. Team Leader, 2. Fence Monitor, 3. Species Observer, and 4. Monthly Photographer.

These positions report to the Forest Restoration Manager. Each one works one four-hour shift per month; you can work in more than one role if you like. These are all volunteer, non-paid assignments. Learn more about each opportunity here and about the background of this project here.

The Smithsonian Folklife Festival, produced annually by the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, features participants from all 50 states and more than 100 countries. This free Festival takes place for two weeks every summer, overlapping the Fourth of July holiday: June 27-July 8, 2018. It is an educational, research-based presentation that features master artisans and other tradition bearers. Volunteers are critical to the success of the Festival and work closely with the Festival staff and participants.
