Dear Moss Building & Design,

How can I keep my home efficient and my A/C bill down?

Dear Dulles Mom,

There are three common ways you could be losing A/C in your home, and therefore, literally watching money fly out the window. The best way to keep your A/C bill down is to keep your home as efficient as possible and ensure no leaks or problem areas in your home where your air conditioning could be escaping. Here are the three things to look for when making your home efficient for summer.

Inefficient Doors & Windows
Caulk around door frames and windows to ensure no air is leaking out. This will also benefit you in those winter months to conserve heat and prevent leaks.

Air Leakage to the Attic
Air escaping to the attic is a common problem for winter and summer as 31% of air leaks come from floors, walls, and ceilings. Make sure your attic entrances are sufficiently sealed to keep leakage to a minimum.

Insufficient Attic Insulation
While keeping air from leaking to the attic is a good first step, making sure your attic is sufficiently insulated can go the next step in making sure your home is efficient.

Keep these three things in mind when hoping to maximize your home’s efficiency. Not the DIY-er type? Moss Building & Design has you covered!
