This event has passed, but check out our calendar[1] for fun today, this week, this month!

Today’s event has possibly been canceled. Per the organizer’s Facebook page[2]:

“We’re sorry we couldn’t put on the flyover we’d planned, however, we hope you enjoy the program streaming on our YouTube and Facebook pages which includes footage of the aircraft, crews, and veterans involved in the Arsenal of Democracy event. We thank you all for your support and understanding.”

Today’s event has possibly been postponed to September 26, 2020. Per the organizer’s Facebook page[3]:

“Well, we tried, but we never got the weather visibility we needed for the #ww2flyover so today’s flight is off. The weather was supposed to clear in time but it never cooperated with us so we will try again tomorrow at 11:30 am EDT. Stay tuned for announcements in the morning. When we know, you’ll know! Keep your fingers crossed.”

To honor the heroes who fought in World War II and those on the home front who produced the tanks, ships, and aircraft that enabled the US and its allies to achieve victory, one of the most diverse arrays of World War II aircraft ever assembled will fly above the skies of Washington, DC.

Originally scheduled for May 2020, the community is invited to enjoy this spectacular flyover on September 25, 2020!

The flyover will include dozens of World War II aircraft flying in 24 historically sequenced warbird formations overhead. The formations will represent the War’s major battles — from the Battle of Britain through the final air assault on Japan — and conclude with a missing man formation.

Never before has such a collection of WWII aircraft been assembled at one location; this spectacular flyover event honors the large assemblage of veterans gathered at the National WWII Memorial for a ceremony!

The Arsenal of Democracy aircraft will depart from Culpeper Regional Airport and Manassas Regional Airport and proceed to a holding point about 10 miles west of Leesburg where they will begin the flight down the Potomac River towards Washington, DC.

The first formation is estimated to be over the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, at 11:30 am (EST).

As aircraft approach the Lincoln Memorial, they will turn east and proceed down Independence Avenue. At the completion of the flyover of the WWII Memorial, aircraft will turn south and begin their flight down the Potomac River and back to their original airports. See the schedule and flyover route here[4].
