Dear Moss Building & Design,
What upgrades can I make to my deck before summer starts?
Dear Dulles Mom,
With the warm weather peeking into March, it is natural to start thinking about upgrading your outdoor spaces. With spring almost here and summer only a few months away, making upgrades to your deck is a great way to prepare yourself to enjoy the outdoors and entertain.
There are three easy fixes you can make to your deck right now:
Make It Structurally Sound
If your deck is old or could use a little TLC, the first place to start is with the foundation. To do this, consider installing new joist hangers, cross brace the underside of your deck for extra support, and replace damaged or rotten boards.
Make It Flow
Ensuring your outdoor space flows just as well as your indoor space is essential and can play a big part in how often you use your deck. Try connecting a lower deck to your existing porch to keep your grilling and relaxing spaces separate. Or, if you have a yard where you know your kids will want to run around — add stairs from your deck to your backyard for easy access.
Make It Shine
Maybe you like the flow and function of your deck, and you’re not worried about its structure. For purely cosmetic touches, try cleaning, sanding, and staining your deck to give it a fresh, clean look. These simple changes can really stand out when throwing neighborhood BBQs or family gatherings.
Now is the time to think about your deck! All of these changes — structural and cosmetic — can be performed by the professionals at Moss Building & Design, who can evaluate your needs and professionally execute your project to make your outdoor space stand out.
