The Children’s Science Center Lab, located in Fair Oaks Mall, invites visitors of all ages to enjoy STEM-focused fun! At a variety of centers and zones, as well as a hands-on experiment bar, children embrace science, technology, engineering, and math concepts through touch, feel, and play!

Plus, their camp programs are truly one-of-a-kind. Through an exciting variety of themes, young camper’s learn new skills, make new friends, and get excited about STEM in our everyday lives!

Science Magic | Rising 1st-4th

In Science of Magic camp, campers will:

• Discover how to levitate balls using air.
• Design their own magic trick using the power of magnets.
• Explore pH color changes using everyday kitchen items, then create their own magical rainbow.
• Perform their own magic trick and explain the scientific concepts behind the magic.

Animal Care | Rising 1st-4th

In Animal Care camp, campers will:

• Get up-close and personal with animal encounters every day, learning about their adaptations and observing their behavior.
• Try their hand at the chemistry behind aquatic life by conducting water quality tests and learning all about pH.
• Engineer an enrichment device that will help an animal use their adaptations and explore their environment.
• Dissect a squid to learn about biology, and how veterinarians can diagnose, treat, and take care of sick and injured animals.
• Design their own animal habitats that fit the needs and adaptations of every animal.

Escape the Lab | Rising 1st-4th
June 29-July 2, 2020

In Escape the Lab camp, campers will:

• Hunt for clues around the Lab and practice observation skills.
• Decode secret messages and create their own codes to crack.
• Find hidden letters written in invisible ink and write their own for their friends to find.
• Decipher symbols and solve scientific riddles that point to the key.
• Work as a team to bring together all the clues and codes, and problem-solve to find a “way out.”

Inventor’s Workshop | Rising 1st-4th
July 6-10, 2020

In Inventor’s Workshop camp, campers will:

• Explore a new inventor and their inventions every day, from ancient inventors like Archimedes to recent technology from Tesla.
• Create a battery, electrical switch, and circuit to carry the energy and get your invention moving.
• Build robots of different kinds to complete challenges and help with everyday tasks.
• Experiment with alternative energy sources, such as wind and solar power.
• Design their own invention and build a prototype to take home.

Spy Camp | Rising 1st-4th
July 13-17, 2020

In Spy Camp, campers will:

• Solve a mystery every day using different science disciplines, from chemistry to physics.
• Explore the art of stealth and the powers of observation.
• Build their own spy tool kit to take home to continue their detective work.
• Learn the science of camouflage and practice hiding in plain sight.

Geology Rocks: Dig It | Rising 1st-4th
July 20-24, 2020

In Dig It camp, campers will:

• Experiment with soil and erosion to study the rock cycle and find out how fossils are formed.
• Learn how paleontologists discover fossils and practice carefully extracting real-life fossil samples.
• Build their own sand sifter to sort larger rock and fossil pieces out of the sand and dirt.
• Discover dinosaur bones and use their skulls and footprints to identify where and when they lived and what they ate.
• Create casts of fossils from shells and dinosaur skulls to take home.

Medieval Mayhem | Rising 1st-4th
July 27-31, 2020

In Medieval Mayhem camp, campers will:

• Construct a castle and catapult and see if their constructions can withstand a siege.
• Build their own suit of armor and study the science behind medieval weapons and the art of blacksmithing.
• Explore medieval inventions that are still used today, from simple machines to time-telling devices and even paper money.
• Experiment with the medieval science of alchemy by turning pennies into “gold,” mixing potions, and creating explosions.
• Discover medieval myths and legends by studying constellations and build their own telescope like Galileo to take home.

Citizen Scientist | Rising 5th-7th
Aug 17-21, 2020

In Citizen Science camp, campers will:

• Meet scientists who are actively working in the field and learn about their job and career path.
• Build their own tools, from hydrometers to miniature microscopes, to take home.
• Dissect owl pellets to discover what they eat and participate in animal observation studies.
• Collect their own data and learn how scientists collect, study, and analyze data, from bird sightings to water quality.
• Experiment with chemistry to complete water quality tests and learn about stream health monitoring.
• Complete a citizen scientist project of their choice and present it at the end of camp.
