Dino Summer at the National Zoo (Free Admission!)

The Smithsonian’s National Zoo is making room for beasts of the prehistoric kind this summer!

From June 1 to August 31, 2019, guests can enjoy “Dino Summer,” featuring unique dinosaur experiences within the park, including DinoRoars, Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo Live, and an Adopt-a-Species program:

DinoRoars is a self-guided safari experience. Visitors will have an opportunity to feast their eyes upon six roaring animatronic dinosaurs, including both a baby stegosaurus and 5,000-pound Tyrannosaurus Rex!
Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo Live is a 30-minute theatre production that invites viewers to observe, meet, and interact with lifelike dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures.
• Dino Summer also includes a very special Adopt-a-Species program, which gives patrons a unique opportunity to adopt a Stegosaurus, Tyrannosaurus Rex, or Naked Mole Rat! This limited edition adoption coincides with the zoo’s species-saving efforts already in place.

Operated by the Smithsonian, this is one of the oldest zoos in the US. Open 364-days of the year (closed only on Christmas), this regional favorite doesn’t charge admission. Animals in a variety of sizes are exhibited throughout the 163-acre park — the Great Ape House, Reptile Discovery Center, and Giant Panda Habitat are the most popular attractions, as well as their new carousel.

Looking for even more dinosaur adventure? Right down the road from the zoo, celebrate the return of the dinosaurs with more excitement at the Museum of Natural History!

Within the museum, the 31,000-square-foot David H. Koch Hall of Fossils-Deep Time reopens after a year of renovation and returns as home to 700 fossil specimens. The museum covers a whopping 4.6 billion years of history and includes lifelike reconstructions of T. rex and plenty of additional family-friendly, dinosaur-driven events!
