How to Fix Discolored Grout

<< More From Moss Building & Design

Dear Moss Building & Design,

The grout in my bathroom shower and tub is very discolored. I want to replace it, but after researching, it seems like that would take a lot of effort, time, and money.

Do you have any suggestions on how to fix it easily without replacing it?

Dear Dulles Mom,

You’re in luck. These days there are a variety of easy-to-apply grout stains on the market for consumers to use. You can buy them from a specialty tile store or your local home improvement store, like Home Depot or Lowe’s.

After washing your existing grout (a mildew cleaner is recommended too), thoroughly allow the area to dry. Then apply the grout stain according to the directions on the container. Be sure to clean up any excess from your tile, so the stain just affects the grout lines!

Take an extra step and protect your hard work — staining/sealing your grout can extend the life of it and give it an entirely new, clean look.

Good luck with the project!
