Birthday EqualiTEA @ Workhouse Arts Center

July 29, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Lucy Burns Museum is hosting a morning EqualiTEA in honor of its namesake, Lucy Burns, who was born on July 28, 1879. Lucy was a staunch supporter of the Women’s Suffrage Movement and received the longest sentence of all the suffragists arrested and sent down to the Occoquan Workhouse in 1917.

Tea and tea parties are deeply ingrained in the history of the women’s suffrage movement, from planning to fundraising.

While participants enjoy a variety of black teas and breakfast pastries on July 29, 2023, tea enthusiast Nancy Rodriguez of Cup & Crown shares the history of tea from England to the US and how the suffragists incorporated it into their cause. A special tour of the Lucy Burns Museum, with its exhibition commemorating the suffragists who were imprisoned at the Workhouse in 1917, follows the tea.

This program is for guests ages 12 and older. This opportunity requires advanced registration (details below).
