This Norwegian sea craft will find a home in Washington, DC, October 5-15, 2018, at The Wharf. The Wharf is a vibrant mile-long waterfront city along the Potomac River complete with restaurants, retailers, residences, and more.

Regional ports include:

Ocean City, MD: August 22-29, 2018
Norfolk, VA: September 13-16, 2018
Washington, DC: October 5-15, 2018

When the ship docks, enjoy much more than guided deck tours and ship viewing. After a public arrival celebration, visitors will be invited to interact with the crew and experience Draken Village, a pop-up area surrounding the ship. Known for their immaculate ships, the Vikings were accomplished artisans and the Draken Harald Hårfagre’s rich craftsmanship speaks to their unsurpassed attention to detail and beauty. Although the Vikings left no record of how they built their ships, this seaworthy vessel was built by a mix of experienced boat builders, historians, craftsmen, and artists. The Draken Harald Hårfagre is not a replica of a known ship, but a reconstruction of what the Norse Sagas refer to as a “Great Ship.”

The ship is equipped with 25 pairs of oars (each oar-powered by two men), however, the Draken will use wind power and a crew of approximately 35 men and women as they journey down the East Coast. The Draken’s careful construction began in 2010 and is ornamented with a traditional dragon’s head, said to protect the ship and crew along their voyage. Learn more about the ship and the history that inspired it here.
