Dear Moss Building & Design,
I need a gentle reminder — what are your top tips for getting my house ready for the colder months?
Dear Dulles Mom,
No problem! As the weather cools off, it’s important to do some quick checks around your home to make sure you’re winter-ready, including:
Check your windows and doors for leaks or ill-fits.
Cold air can seep in via caulk cracks and weather-stripping and make your home cold…making your HVAC unit work harder.
Be sure your fireplace and chimney are in solid working condition.
If it’s been a few years, have a chimney sweep come out and give your chimney a maintenance check.
Stay on top of your gutters!
Leaves will fall and get stuck in your gutters. If they’re not clear, snow from winter could cause backups and then potential roofing issues.
Check back next month when we continue to provide winter readiness tips!
