This event has passed, but check out our calendar for fun today, this week, this month!
Part of Salute to America 2020, there will be a spectacular fireworks show on the National Mall in Washington, DC, on July 4, 2020.
Fireworks begin at 9:07 pm and will be the backdrop of “A Capitol Fourth,” an annual Independence Day concert. Please note, A Capitol Fourth will not be held in person this year — this 90 minute PBS special will be pre-recorded, while the fireworks from the National Mall will be carried out live during the broadcast.
During the day, before the fireworks, the DMV can expect a military aircraft flyover at some point, as well. Per a June 26, 2020, statement from the US Department of Defense, cities that played roles in the American Revolution can expect an aerial salute.
“The flyovers will begin in Boston and proceed to New York City, Philadelphia, and Baltimore. From there, they will join other Department of Defense and heritage aircraft in the Salute to America over our nation’s capital.”
The DoD also notes, “The exact timing of the flyovers is still being worked out and will be announced soon.”
The Military Heritage Aircraft Flyover is in addition to this year’s Salute to America in-person events that are being held on the White House South Lawn and the Ellipse.
