Frying Pan Farm Park is packed with summer fun!

All ages will find a summer camp that sparks their interest, gives them the chance to discover a new skill, the opportunity to learn a new hobby, and most of all — have fun! Plus, you couldn’t ask for a better place to host such a wide variety of camps. As an actual working farm, many campers will get up close and personal with farm residents, while others will find the picturesque setting the perfect place to enjoy a break or picnic lunch with new friends.

Adventure Fishing Camp | Ages 10-14
July 13-17, 2020

Campers are invited to learn beginner and intermediate tactics for fishing in different types of water, such as private ponds, rivers, and the Chesapeake Bay. Kids will learn casting, knot tying, and fish identification. Plus, a Scout fishing merit badge may be earned through this program, too!

Let’s Go Fishing | Ages 7-9
July 13-17, 2020

Virginia Outside fishing camp will teach freshwater fishing basics through games and activities, as well as on-the-water experiences. Campers will learn casting, fish identification, and types of tackle used as they head to local ponds, rivers, or creeks in search of bluegill, bass, catfish, and anything else that bites. Campers will also play, explore, and cool off from the hot summer sun with daily activities such as creek exploring, outdoor games, nature center visits, popsicle breaks, and even a trip to the Water Mine!

Young Anglers Fishing | Ages 7-10
July 27-31, 2020

Fish & Explore takes campers to lakes, rivers, and the Chesapeake Bay to catch fish, learn water safety and nature awareness, and fresh and saltwater fishing basics (casting, rigging, knot tying, selecting tackle, and lures and identifying fish).

Paddle & Explore
Multiple dates, see below

Fish & Explore takes campers off-site to paddle kayaks along local waterways, ponds, and lakes. Campers learn kayaking skills while getting up close to native wildlife. Beach stops allow campers to wade and observe, catch, photograph and release frogs, toads, tadpoles, salamanders, lizards, turtles, and many more small critters.

FARM


Adventures on the Farm | Ages 6-10

Campers will discover what life is like on the farm! Campers will enjoy farm visits, goat milking, and making homemade snacks and hand-churned ice cream.

All-About-Animals | Ages 3-6

Do you know how many teeth a pig has, or how high can a goat jump? Campers will learn all about farm and forest animals, including fun facts! They’ll create crafts, take hikes, visit farm animals, sing songs, and play fun games, too.

All-About-Horses | Ages 8-10

Campers will enjoy daily riding lessons, plus learn about tacking, grooming, general horse care, and barn chores. They’ll also enjoy arts and crafts, equine speakers, and breed demonstrations.

Farm Zoology Camp | Ages 8-14

Campers will explore the science behind the animals that live at Frying Pan Farm Park. They’ll learn about the habits and biology of farm animals and their wild ancestors, as well as meet the countless creatures that live in stream and forest habitats. Activities also include hands-on lessons with farm animals, nature hikes, games, and crafts.

Jr. Farmer | Ages 8-14

Campers are invited to pitch in on the farm and discover how food goes from the field to the table. They’ll learn about farm animals and the roles they play in our lives, as well try goat milking, working in the garden, learning farm machinery, and trying their hand at farm chores!

Farm Hand | Ages 10-14

Campers will explore life as a farm hand by milking cows or goats and tending to farm animals. They’ll focus on care, growth, and development for farm birds (week 1) or farm mammals (week 2). Farm chores, games, activities, and guest speakers are all part of this unique camp experience that introduces young people to farm life.

Frying Pan Summer Games | Ages 8-14
Multiple dates, see below

Frying Pan staff and farm animals have been chewing cud, grinding corn, stomping hooves, and tossing hay bales in anticipation of this year’s Summer Games. Campers will train for games by catching critters in the creek, stacking hay bales, learning farm animal facts, and churning butter. Campers will test their skills by competing in challenges in the spirit of the Summer Games.

ARTS & CRAFTS


All the World’s an Art Studio | Ages 6-12
July 20-24, 2020

Campers will create art using styles of well-known artists while exploring different cultures and traditions. Campers will also make unique sculptures, create vibrant paintings, and learn about ancient ink techniques. Plus, they’ll also practice the art of puppet design, tinting, watercolor resists, and brush painting.

Photo Explorers | Ages 8-13

Campers will learn new skills, including focusing and motion techniques, separating subjects from backgrounds, using creative modes, exposure, and basic editing.

Fashion Design Sewing | Ages 8-12
July 6-10, 2020

Campers will learn how fashion design works and how clothing lines are created while learning basic hand and machine sewing. They also learn techniques that include sketching a portfolio of designs, measuring, using patterns, fabric structure, maintenance, and sewing machine operation.

Applause! Aladdin | Ages 7-14

Based on “The Arabian Nights,” the same story that inspired Disney’s “Aladdin” comes a modern adaptation written especially for campers! Young performers will put on a musical while learning acting lessons.

Applause! Jam-Ilton Part 2 | Ages 7-14
June 15-26, 2020

Actors, rappers, history buffs, and hip-hoppers will blast back to 1776 and become musical showstoppers! Campers will write original scenes themed to the American Revolution, show off their freedom of speech, and sing about the constitution.

Gymnastics & Dance | Ages 6-14
June 29-July 2, 2020

Flip and dance the summer away with Spirit Pros and a curriculum developed by a former NCAA nationally ranked gymnast and national dance champion. Gymnastics, rhythm-and-dance movement skills, games, and activities are part of this action-packed week. Gymnastics’ apparatuses include an inflatable, mini-tramp, uneven parallel bars, vault, balance beam, and more.

Dancing with the Camp Stars! | Ages 5 1/2-12

Campers are invited to be the star in this camp that teaches different dance steps and styles with current and former NFL, NBA, and collegiate dancers. They’ll learn ballet, jazz, and hip hop, then delight parents with an end-of-camp performance!

Digital Kidz: Battle Bots | Ages 8-13
June 22-26, 2020

Campers will engage in robotic combat through machine battling! While working in teams, campers will use LEGO EV3 Mindstorm to design, build, and control robots. They’ll learn how to program new sensors and discover new engineering design techniques, including robot structure, weight, and gear ratios.

Digital Kidz: Video Game Design & Development | Ages 8-12
July 13-17, 2020

Campers will design their own video game from start to finish while learning design concepts from the pros. This includes character creation, level design, programming, functionality, debugging, and troubleshooting.

Digital Kidz: Tech-Savvy Girls | Ages 8-12
Aug 3-7, 2020

Campers will explore technology, leadership, social activism! They’ll design a website, learn basic coding, photos editing, learn how technology and robotics can help the world, program an electronic accessory, and learn animation and video editing. Plus, this camp meets the requirements for Girl Scout designing, programming, and showcasing a robot badge (Take-Action project included).

Doctors & Vets | Ages 6-10
July 6-10, 2020

Do you have a camper who wants to be a doctor or veterinarian someday? In this camp, they’ll learn how by taking apart models of the brain, heart, and skeleton, looking at x-rays, and discovering how reflexes work. Campers will also explore marine life, study horses, and make a first aid kit for pets.

Eureka! | Ages 6-11
Aug 10-14, 2020

Young inventors will use basic materials, simple machines, tips from world-famous inventors, and ingenuity to construct catapults and forts, fabricate a winning egg-drop design, construct a dancing robot and, assemble a working lightsaber to take home.

Jedi Engineering with LEGO | Ages 5-6
June 29-July 2, 2020

The Force awakens in this engineering camp led by Play-Well Tek. Campers will design and build projects like LEGO X-Wings, R2 Units, Energy Catapults, Defense Turrets, and Settlements. They’ll also create motorized and architectural projects with imagination and engineering to defeat the Empire!

Jedi Master Engineering | Ages 7-12
June 29-July 2, 2020

Master engineers will discover key concepts like gear trains, worm drives, pneumatics, and eccentric motion in this advanced engineering camp. They’ll build LEGO X-Wings, AT-AT walkers, Pod Racers, Star Destroyers, Cloud Cities, Settlements, Fortresses, and other complex machines.

Red Hot Robots | Ages 6-11

Campers are invited to join Mad Science to program robots, learn about circuitry and the uses of robots in the world, and build-their-own working robot to take home!

Slimes & Potions | Ages 6-10

Campers will explore chemistry through slime-making and potion-concocting! They’ll investigate polymers, pixels, magnetism, and diffusion, as well as test crazy, sticky, foamy, sparkly, fluorescing, and otherwise unidentifiable slimes! Plus, they also make wild and wacky concoctions like milk rainbows, soda geysers, elephant toothpaste, and exploding lava!

Mystery Adventure Victory Farm | Ages 10-14

Your country needs young people like you to keep America’s farms productive to win the war! Campers will “join” the Food Corp and perform vital tasks on the farm front: grow vegetables, tend to the animals, and cook lunches for the farmers. Plus, they’ll enjoy old-timey games, wading in the creek, an ice cream social, as well as comic books and decoder rings.

Campers will become a revolutionary war spy to help capture an enemy raider! They’ll search for clues, solve puzzles, break codes, and explore Frying Pan Farm Park to complete a mission.

Great Inventions | Ages 8-14
Multiple dates, see below

Campers will enjoy hands-on exploration of some of the great inventions and concepts in history, including communications, flight, the printing press, compasses, and simple machines. They’ll conduct experiments and problem-solving challenges throughout the week, finishing with a delicious experiment in thermodynamics by making (and eating) ice cream.
