The Fairfax County Domestic Violence Action Center (DVAC) is a comprehensive service center created to provide culturally responsive information support services for domestic violence and stalking victims and their families. DVAC also promotes the accountability of offenders of these crimes through specialized prosecution and offender supervision.
All services are free and, when possible, confidential; some of them include:
• Emergency shelter (Embry Rucker Community Shelter)
• Crisis intervention, emotional support, and options counseling
• Education about the criminal and civil justice systems (including civil protective orders)
• Housing information and referrals
• Referrals to other county and community-based resources
• Victim advocacy
Bethany House of Northern Virginia

Bethany House provides emergency shelter and support services to women and children escaping domestic violence. They provide women with safe, restorative care while giving them the support and resources they need to transition into independent lives free from abuse.
Some services they offer include:
• Crisis intervention
• Immediate help, counseling, and support to victims of domestic and family violence
• Access to emergency shelter
• Referrals to food, clothing, medical, legal, and other resources as requested by the caller
• Trauma recovery
The Women’s Center

While The Women’s Center does not provide emergency shelter, it does offer some of the most robust counseling services in the area. Its mission is “to significantly improve the mental health and well-being of all members of the community through counseling, education, support, and advocacy.”

Cornerstones is a nonprofit organization that promotes self-sufficiency by providing support and advocacy for those in need of food, shelter, affordable housing, quality childcare, and other human services.

Northern Virginia Family Service

Northern Virginia Family Service provides a wide range of services — from emergency shelter to job training to health and medical services. Their “Healthy Families” program provides home visits to help families provide healthy environments for their kids and early childhood education programs for young children.
Moms and children who qualify can also see doctors, dentists, counselors, and therapists, or get help getting health insurance.

Inova’s Community Services Division implements multiple initiatives to help families and individuals in need. The Partnership for Healthier Communities (PHC) is one such initiative that connects uninsured children and adults with quality healthcare services, low-cost medical care coverage, and additional programs to benefit the health and well-being of our most at-risk populations.
