Originally named the Savoy Big Five in 1926, The Harlem Globetrotters was formed to promote a nightclub called the Savoy Ballroom. However, their popularity grew, and they became The Harlem Globetrotter after playing more than 1,000 games around the country!

By 1941, under new management, the direction of the team changed to incorporate amazing comedy moves. Thousands of games later, the team was still entertaining and setting records — in 1950, Globetrotter Nathaniel “Sweetwater” Clifton became the first African-American player to sign an NBA contract!

Today, after nine decades, The Harlem Globetrotters continue a world-famous tradition of ball handling wizardry, basketball artistry, and one-of-a-kind family entertainment that continues to thrill fans of all ages!
