How Can I Prepare My Home for the Fall Season?

Dear Moss Building & Design,
How can I prepare my home for the fall season?
Dear Dulles Mom,
Here are five ways to prepare your home for fall!
Look around for peeling paint.
This is an indicator that the existing paint film can no longer protect the siding of the building. Save yourself from expensive future repairs by correcting peeling paint early on.
Clean those gutters!
This is vital to avoid ice dams. If your gutters are clogged with leaves and other gunk, ice will back up into the eves and damage the framing and drywall.
Caulk!
Caulk your windows and door frames. This will save you in the long run from having to make replacements! It would help if you first looked where the side jambs meet the sill because this area is the most vulnerable to damage. Make sure you use high-quality exterior caulk!
Inspect your roof.
Our MOSS experts recommend professional inspections to prevent leaks from snow and rain that could cause damage. However, MOSS expert David Keys says you can spot some things safely from the ground. “You can look for damaged or missing shingles, cracks in the flashing caulk, and insecure gutters.” Ensure your roof is in good condition because it is easier to deal with repairs earlier on than after it’s too late!
Then, prepare for winter!
Your deck may be an overlooked area for preparations. Make sure you clean and cover your deck furniture and store them in a protected area. To prevent dirt from freezing and cracking, make sure you empty those clay pots!
If you find you need more extensive work in any of these areas, MOSS can help, whether handyman repairs, roofing, caulking, or other home repairs.
