Kids Can Help With Home Projects, Too!

Dear Moss Building & Design,

What are some ways that my kids can help with household chores or maintenance? A few suggestions for our time at home would be fantastic!

— Dulles Mom

Dear Dulles Mom,

We get it — the time at home has been tough and probably thrown life a bit off-balance. We compiled a list of things that your kids can help with around the house, as well as some ideas for home improvement projects that your family can take on this spring and celebrate you on Mother’s Day.

1. Test out smoke detectors and change their batteries, change the fan blade direction for spring/summer on ceiling fans, and help change the home air filter.

2. Clean and organize the garage.

3. Plant flowers, spread mulch, weed the garden.

4. Wash outdoor toys, sweep patio/deck, wipe down outdoor furniture.

5. Pick up yard debris and small twigs.

7. Re-organize the laundry room (family activity) by mounting shelves to provide organization.

8. Build a compost bin (family activity),

8. Help out with pets, including feeding, cleaning up poop or litter, walking.

9. Use screws, nuts, and bolts to re-decorate the kids’ bedrooms, including hanging photos, framed posters, string lights, and more. See a few fun ideas here.

10. Most importantly, change the roll of toilet paper, as well as load, unload, and reload the dishwasher without being asked!

Good luck with implementing some good habits with your kids and teaching them ways to help improve your home’s appearance and organization, inside and outside!
