Mason Game and Technology Academy is George Mason University’s Community Outreach Youth Program and a great place for individuals to find professional development courses, extended learning opportunities, and even Executive Education Certificate programs!

Offered as part of the school’s Virginia Serious Game Institute (VSGI) and the Mason Computer Game Design Program, students 9- to 18-years-old can take courses in computer and video game design, programming, and more. Plus, adults can find enrichment courses to advance their careers or just have fun learning a new skill.

Mason Game and Technology Academy provides students 9- to 18-years-old with a variety of computer courses throughout the summer. Summer Prep programs are offered at George Mason’s Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun County locations with opportunities in Virtual Reality Game Development, Music Production, Entrepreneurship, and more!

2019 summer camps include:

Virtual Reality Game Development (Ages 9-14)
July 22-26, 2019
In this week-long summer opportunity, kids will learn to create their own virtual reality experience using Android + Utopia Headsets and the HTC Vive. This course will focus on implementing interactive media designs (minor programming/asset creation) and fully developing the virtual reality software for both mobile and personal computer platforms. Introduction to Blockchain Apps (Ages 14-18)
July 22-26, 2019
The course covers an introduction to blockchain and creating and understanding decentralized applications. Students will learn the basics of smart-contract development by focusing on Ethereum, a platform for decentralized applications. This course exposes students to decentralized apps (DApps) where students will interact and develop games on the Ethereum blockchain. Students learn to code in Solidity, the contract-oriented programming language for writing smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain. Roblox Game Development (Ages 9-14)
July 22-26, 2019
This course teaches students the basic tools of Roblox development, beginning with how to create parts and the various properties of each item. Course topics also include power-ups, lives, and enemies. At the end of the course, students will have built an Obby, inspired by the original Super Mario Brothers, a Racing Game inspired by Mario Kart, or an Arena Game inspired by Fortnite! Python: An Introduction to Programming (Ages 11-18)
July 22-26, 2019
This popular course is an excellent introduction to programming for students of all ages. Python is an excellent first programming language because students can quickly learn how to think like a programmer. Python is easily readable — students won’t need to memorize the complex syntax that other programming languages require.
