<< More From Barakat Orthodontics
Dear Dr. Barakat,
We are moving from another state, and my daughter is mid-treatment. What do I need to do to resume care with a new Orthodontist?
Dear Concerned Parent,
Moving in the middle of orthodontic treatment or any disruption that takes you away from your Orthodontist can be a concern for many patients. The good news is that this issue is not as uncommon as you may think by living in a transient area such as the DC metro area. The priority is to make your transition to an orthodontist in your new hometown as smooth as possible. This is done by getting a referral from your previous Orthodontist, visiting the American Association of Orthodontists online, and asking friends and neighbors.
Once you’ve decided on a new Orthodontist, your previous Orthodontist will forward your records and treatment history as well as a letter with your original treatment plan. This will include original concerns, diagnosis, type of appliances used, recommendations for continued care, and estimated remaining treatment time.
Be sure to inform your current Orthodontist of your plans to move as soon as you can so that at your last appointment, they can ensure that any adjustments to braces are designed to get you through to your next visit with your new Orthodontist. If applicable, be sure and let your insurance company know that you are moving as well, so payments can be sent to the correct doctor.
At Barakat Orthodontics, we make it simple for you as you relocate to minimize disruptions and progress. We want to get you well on your way to your beautiful smile!
