Dear Moss Building & Design,
The chill in the air has reminded our family we need to get our house ready for late fall and early winter. Any tips for November home prep?
Dear Dulles Mom,
Great question! Here are a few tips to make the coming colder months better for your home:
First things first, rake and bag your leaves! Most should be down by the end of November/mid-December, and you never know when we’ll have an early snowstorm, so clean up those leaves and keep your lawn and area clean. A few other thoughts:
Inspect your driveway, walkways, exterior stairs, and railings for anything that needs to be repaired. The last thing you want to do is fix things in frigid temps.
Purchase bags of ice melter to have on hand for the above-mentioned areas that need to be made safe during icy and snowy months. Beat the rush today to ensure you are ready, no matter what.
Make sure your sump pump is in good working order since there’s a lot more precipitation in the winter months.
Get your snow blower and shovels from storage to make sure they are in good working condition. If not, you’ll have the opportunity to replace them now when demand is low, and selection is high.
Be prepared for the unexpected. Put an emergency kit, water, and snacks in your car.
All these suggestions can be done over a weekend, but will have long-lasting effects all winter!
