We’ve often said the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum is 100% worth-the-drive (less than an hour from Dulles International Airport). Now, even more so with their sock-skating rink!
Located outdoors on the museum’s roof, the rink looks much like you would expect of an ice rink. However, instead of ice, the ground is covered with slippery-slidey, heavy-duty plastic that can safely accommodate 20 sock-sliders at a time.
To enjoy the rink, there is a nominal charge on top of your standard admission fee. This small fee will go toward supporting this special hands-on STEM museum, which unfortunately has had to downsize due to temporary pandemic-related closures earlier this year.

Located in the heart of historic Winchester, VA, the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum is a kid (and kid-at-heart) focused destination that features 4-stories of hands-on fun.
Each story boasts loads of touch-and-play areas that encourage problem-solving, creative thinking, and collaboration. Best of all, the kids don’t know they’re learning — they just think they’re having a great time!
