The Herndon Parks & Rec Department always has something exciting going on. That’s why they were awarded and recognized as one of the Best Summer Camps 2023 by Northern Virginia Magazine!

Get excited about their summer opportunities, ideal for kids and teens looking to make new friends, improve or learn new skills, and so much more. Each camp is guaranteed to entertain, excite, and enrich your child’s summer!

2024 summer camps include:

Nature Camp
Ages 5-10

Campers will explore nature through hands-on activities and outdoor learning, using their senses to discover joy and appreciation for nature! Each week, we will investigate a different theme centered around science experiments, nature walks, art projects, environmental education, and fun!

Dance Camps
Ages 6-12

Dance camps are a high-energy experience focused on exploring dance techniques and choreography centered on a weekly theme. Each week’s camp experience will culminate in a brief showcase where the dancers will perform for family and friends.

STEAM Camp
Ages 6-12

Herndon Parks & Recreation has teamed up with AlphaBEST to create a one-of-a-kind summer camp experience based on Going Places, the award-winning book by Peter H. and Paul A. Reynolds. Each week, your little explorer has the opportunity to tackle new problems by developing solutions using engineering concepts, technology, science, art, drama, and physical activity games!

Chess Camps
Ages 6-12 • July 22-Aug 16, 2024

In Chess Camp, campers play and learn chess with Magnus Academy! Activities include learning the rules, openings, tactics, and endgames, studying master games, and playing lots of games against other students.

Tennis Camps
Ages 7-13 • Weekly, June 17-Aug 9, 2024

Tennis Camp is an excellent way for kids to spend their summer outdoors, learning tennis and having fun! Camp will feature on- and off-court instruction, warmups, and conditioning.

Tennis Counselor-in-Training (CIT)
Ages 14-15 • Weekly, June 17-Aug 9, 2024

Want to be a tennis instructor someday? Get an early start on training for the position! Tennis Counselor-in-Training’s valuable experience on how to instruct, run drills, supervise kids, and more tennis-related items in our summer camp setting. Tennis experience is required to participate in the program.

Junior Lifeguard Training
Ages 11-14 • Weekly, June 24-July 19, 2024

Do you have a desire to become a future lifeguard? Learn the roles of responsibilities of a lifeguard in our Junior Lifeguard Training Camp! Campers will improve their swimming skills and work on beginner-level rescues.

Teen Discovery
Ages 12-15 • Weekly, June 29-Aug 2, 2024

Teen Discovery allows teenagers to spend a week with friends while traveling to their favorite summer destinations! Each day promises a new adventure through field trips, games, and activities. Trips may include Kings Dominion, Dave & Busters, Top Golf, waterparks, horseback riding, white water rafting, trampoline park, regional parks, and more!

Counselor-in-Training (CIT)
Ages 13-16 • Weekly, June 17-Aug 9, 2024

The program allows kids to learn how to plan, teach, and execute youth programs and activities. CITs will work in camp units and shadow counselors while developing these skills. In addition, the CIT program is designed to create leaders and role models and prepare participants to become effective and talented counselors.
