These events have passed, but check out our calendar for fun today, this week, this month!
Reading to children has repeatedly shown to improve logical thinking, concentration, general academic aptitude, and more, all while inspiring a true love of reading! Don’t let the summer slip away without engaging your children in these local summer reading programs — most offer special incentives and prizes!
Loudoun County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program
Get ready for an out-of-this-world adventure. Beginning June 10, 2019, ramp up your reading, discover more of the library’s resources and explore your community. With this year’s “Explore Your Universe” theme, patrons can expect plenty of space-related programs for all ages. Children, teens, and adults can get in the game by completing challenges all summer long. There are also chances to complete challenges by visiting one of Loudoun’s parks and museums.
Arlington County Public Libraries Summer Reading Challenge
Join the Arlington Public Library’s 2019 Summer Reading Challenge in partnership with the Washington Nationals. Attend fun events and read your way to cool prizes, including tickets to a Nationals game!
DC Public Libraries Summer Challenge
Kids, teens, adults, and even babies can get in on the fun this summer by participating in DC Public Library’s Summer Challenge. Did you know that reading just 20 minutes each day keeps your mind active and engaged over the summer? Participating is as easy as reading a book, magazine, blog, or website. Just read 20 minutes a day, log your progress, and win prizes!
Prince William County Libraries Summer Reading Program
Kids of all ages, infants-Grade 5, and Grade 6-12, can join in the reading fun this summer! Share what you are reading to earn awesome prizes and be sure to stop in for the Weekly Challenge for a chance to win even more prizes. The next adventure begins from June 11, 2019!

BOOK IT!, sponsored by Pizza Hut, offers plenty of meaningful opportunities for children to enjoy reading throughout the summer, and of course, be rewarded handsomely with pizza!
