Parent Encouragement Program (PEP) is a nonprofit, educational organization that provides classes both in-person and online to parents and all who care for children, toddlers through teens.
Join them on February 2, 2021, for a free online webinar: Talking with Kids to Build Stress Tolerance, Motivation, & a Happy Home:
Dr. William Stixrud and Ned Johnson, authors of the national best-seller, The Self-Driven Child, offer a preview of their new book, What Do You Say? Talking with Kids to Build Stress Tolerance, Motivation, and a Happy Home (available in the late summer of 2021), featuring techniques on communicating with kids in a way to support their autonomy and self-drive that are so important for healthy development.
Informed by extensive research, Stixrud and Johnson will share practical communication strategies for building a strong emotional connection with kids, communicating healthy (versus toxic) expectations, fostering intrinsic motivation, and helping kids find their own reasons to change when they’re struggling.
Because communication is hardest when things are not going well, they will emphasize how to get “buy-in” before parents share experience and advice, how to change the energy when it feels like we’re trying to force our kids, and how to manage conversations when emotions run high.
