<< More Summer Camps[1]

More than a mansion with a beautiful view of the Potomac River, Tudor Place is steeped in history! Dating back to 1805, Tudor Place has close ties to the legacy of America’s First Family and is the only property in the District of Columbia connected to George and Martha Washington.

Since then, the six generations of Peters who lived at Tudor Place were witnesses to a ceaseless parade of events that shaped the nation, including the burning of Washington in 1814, slavery, the Civil War, both World Wars, and the Cold War. Yet, today, Tudor Place remains true to the directive of its last owner, “that it be considered not as a period museum, but as a house lived in and loved by generations of our family and in which they found great happiness.”

Today, Tudor Place’s Vision is “An honest look at the past to realize a better future.” This summer, children are invited to Tudor Place for a unique camp filled with history, exploration, art, and more!

Summer 2022 opportunities include:

Ages 6-8
July 25-29, 2022 • 9 am-12 pm (plus, 1-hr of optional before/aftercare)

Children are invited to dive into their creative side and explore over 200 years of paintings, pottery, music, and more!

Campers will explore Tudor Place’s historic house and garden through an artistic lens pulling from its collections to inspire their own creations. They’ll learn about various forms of art, including metalwork, glass blowing, and ceramics, and experiment with similar techniques. Campers will also practice painting, blending watercolors, designing stickers, and creating a musical instrument to take home!

Ages 9-11
Aug 1-5, 2022 • 9 am-12 pm (plus, 1-hr of optional before/aftercare)

Children are invited to travel back to the 1800s and see how different daily life was! What type of clothes did people of the past wear? What did they see on a typical day? Do people still eat similar dishes and play the same types of games?

Tudor Place houses over 2,000 objects to help visitors understand what life was like before electricity, running water, and modern conveniences. Campers will discover how life varied for residents and explore the ways historians use objects to discover details about day-to-day roles and noteworthy events. Campers will also dig into archaeology, explore the history of Tudor Place, and make their own time capsules!
