USPTO’s Intellectual Property Patch-Earning Program for Scouts

By DullesMoms.com, April 2018

Girl Scouts, get ready to be imagination and invention pioneers! Focusing on STEM from another angle, the Intellectual Property Patch, a partnership between the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital (GSCNC) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), seeks to increase a maker’s knowledge of invention and work protection! Developed with the Intellectual Property Owners (IPO) Education Foundation, the IP Patch will show girls the tools they need to benefit from their creations and foster innovation!

Interested in learning more? Download the patch’s supplemental materials online. Available for four troop levels (Brownie, Junior, Cadette, and Senior) to Girl Scouts all over the country, corresponding guides provide developmentally appropriate information to learners while complementing the existing Innovation Badges available through the Girl Scouts organization. Once all related requirements are fulfilled, troop leaders can order these patches ($2.25/each) directly through their local shop. To obtain your patches in the Greater Washington Region, please call (202) 274-3312 or email [email protected].

Kid and teen visitors to the USPTO website can also spend time learning about inventors and cool dates in IP history. Plus, there are great activities available online for the thinkers, tinkerers, and builders in your life!

Learn more about obtaining the IP patch here.
