Dear Dr. Barakat,

How often do I have to see the orthodontist while I have braces?

— Concerned Parent

Dear Concerned Parent,

It depends on the type of treatment; but in general, you’re looking at an office visit every 4-8 weeks for the duration of your treatment. Sometimes you can even go ten weeks between visits. These appointments can range from 20-minutes for check-ups and longer appointments for initial and final visits. It is important to stick to the schedule so the doctor can keep an eye on how things are going with the movement of your teeth, jaw growth and development, and oral hygiene.
