Camp Winkler

<< More Summer Camps

This summer, kids ages 5-12 are invited to embark upon an adventure set among NOVA Park’s newest addition to their family, Winkler Botanical Preserve!

Located on almost 45 acres in Alexandria, VA, campers will have the opportunity to explore this unique destination’s natural world and ecosystem. Winkler Botanical Preserve is a lush oasis filled with native plants, walking trails, and water features, including a lily pad-strewn pond, streams, and even a manmade waterfall!

Led by a dedicated NOVA Parks staff, they strive to create a camp experience filled with innovative activities, thought-provoking pursuits, and creative expressions through crafts, games, and challenges.

2024 summer opportunities include:

Wiggle Worms
Ages 5-6
June 17-21Aug 5-9, 2024

Wiggle Worms will dig in and explore the world beneath their feet! They’ll build a take-home garden (and have the know-how to keep it going), learn about the pollinators that work hard to get food to our tables, and try new fruits and vegetables! Campers will bring new-found knowledge and meaningful crafts home to share!

Forest Friends
Ages 7-9
June 24-28July 15-19July 29-Aug 2, 2024

Forest Friends will spend their time all over the preserve! Kids will investigate the animals that call Winkler Botanical Preserve home — from the creek to the tops of the trees. They’ll also get up close and personal with different species, learn about their lives, and create their own critter. They’ll even build a forest fortress for their imaginary creature and bring home a small version, too!

Outdoor Explorers
Ages 10-12
July 8-12July 22-26, 2024

Outdoor Explorers will examine the bridge between STEM and nature! At camp, they’ll also learn what tools animals “utilize” in their lives at Winkler Botanical Preserve, build their own toolbox, and invent their own implements. To make camp even better, campers will investigate how snakes resemble a clamp, look at the chisels of rodents, and understand what inventions humans have made from observing how animals did it first.
