What does it take to turn a childhood dream into something extraordinary? Join astronaut Karen Nyberg and co-author Ann McCallum Staats for a special launch celebration of their new picture book, A Quilt of Stars: Astronaut Karen Nyberg Stitches a Dream.

In this interactive family program on September 26, 2026, Nyberg and McCallum will bring Karen’s remarkable true story to life as they explore the dreams, goals, and many steps that took Karen from a child imagining the stars to living and working aboard the International Space Station. Children can enjoy a live reading of the story, joining the conversation as they discover how Karen combined science, creativity, and her love of making—even while living in space. Young explorers can also participate in a star-making activity where they’ll use folding, sewing, and weaving techniques to create constellation-inspired art.
