Touch, Feel, Play! @ the National Children’s Museum

New to the DMV community, the National Children’s Museum sparks curiosity and creativity in little ones, all the way up to middle-school-age kids!

This playful indoor family destination boasts a wide variety of touch-and-play activities, exhibits, and experiences centered around science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

As of January 2022, the National Children’s Museum is open Thursday-Sunday (and select school holidays) with two timed sessions, starting at 9:30 am and 1:30 pm. Visitors are encouraged to reserve tickets for your entire party in one order, as time slots may sell out quickly.

Visiting Exhibit: Thomas & Friends: Explore the Rails!
From January 22-May 15, 2022, visit Thomas & Friends: Explore the Rails! to help Thomas and his friends solve a variety of challenges, from simple sorting and shape identification to engineering a complex train track.

Visiting Exhibit: Creative Corner
From December 18, 2021-February 21, 2022, the Arabic alphabet is brought to life in the Alif Ba Exhibition! Explore the Arabic language through touch and sound with 28 hands-on letter displays.

Dream Machine
Children ages five and up can climb into the clouds in their three-story climber and slide! Use your imagination to discover new ideas and reach beyond the familiar. The Dream Machine is wheelchair accessible at multiple points. // As of Jan 2022

Little Dreamers
This cloud-and-flight-themed area for infants and toddlers encourages movement and connection. // As of Jan 2022

Innovation Sandbox
Shoot bolts of lightning, make it rain, create clouds, and more through Weather Worlds, an immersive digital experience created by Design I/O. Afterward, discover your inner climate action hero. // As of Jan 2022

Art + Tech
Tap into your creativity with iconic friends and activities from Nickelodeon, including SpongeBob SquarePants, PAW Patrol, and Slime. Not to worry — the Slime is virtual, so you can experience all the fun without any of the mess! // As of Jan 2022

Data Science Alley
Step through colorful, reactive gateways, send a pom-pom through tubes, and in the process, discover how data points are collected and aggregated. Explore figures and statistics through play and think about the data found in your day-to-day lives. // As of Jan 2022

Little Movers
A free-movement space for infants and toddlers to build gross and fine motor skills. // As of Jan 2022

Engineering Games + Play
Design, build, and send vehicles down the National Children’s Museum’s “On the Go-go” track. Shoot a basketball, score a home run, and dive into material science and natural phenomenon concepts through the lens of beloved local sports teams. // As of Jan 2022

Tinkerers Studio
Join the museum for field trips, family workshops, and birthday parties in this 21st-century learning lab. // As of Jan 2022
