Celebrate the season with a wildly fun tradition at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo! On April 21, 2025, the Zoo hosts its beloved annual Easter Monday event!

From 10 am-12 pm at Great Meadow (located between the Great Ape House and Reptile House), young adventurers are invited to take part in an egg-stra special Easter egg scavenger hunt. This interactive experience leads families through hands-on stations where they’ll meet scientists, explore animal careers, and discover fascinating facts about the Zoo’s residents. Participants can even win a special prize!

After the scavenger fun, guests are encouraged to explore animal enrichment activities and live demonstrations — or grab a bite to eat at one of the Zoo’s restaurants. It’s a full day of learning, laughter, and wild discoveries at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo!

Admission is always free, however, entry passes must be reserved in advance online. Parking is fee-based and can also be reserved online.

Get to know the National Zoo! As a part of the Smithsonian Institution, the Zoo boasts more than 2,100 animals representing almost 400 different species, many of which are in the Zoo’s themed exhibits.

In the heart of the nation’s capital, the National Zoo isn’t just a place to see animals from across the globe; it’s also an important institution of education, conservation, and research. Spanning over 160 acres in the Rock Creek Park area of Washington, DC, it’s been a beloved destination for families since 1889.
