On July 4, 2024, the National Archives on Constitution Avenue hosts a grand celebration of America’s birthday. This event features reenactors, family fun, and the iconic reading of the Declaration of Independence!

Later in the day, the celebration includes the Presentation of Colors and a performance by the 3rd US Infantry Regiment, The Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps. The highlight of the event is the reading of the Declaration of Independence, featuring historical figures like Abigail and John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington!

In the late morning, guests can enjoy a live musical performance by The Experience Band and Show and stick around for front-row seats to the National Independence Day Parade.

Throughout the day, enjoy hands-on, immersive family activities. Meet historical figures, sign the Declaration of Independence, and enjoy crafts and activities. Plus, don’t miss your chance to explore the Museum! Visit the Rotunda to see the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, delve into the history of American rights in the permanent Records of Rights exhibit, and learn about the untold stories of coal communities in the temporary exhibit “Power and Light: Russell Lee’s Coal Survey.”
