US Capitol Holiday Tree Lighting

<< The BIG Holiday Guide

Annually, the Architect of the Capitol (AOC) collaborates with the United States Forest Service to choose the US Capitol Christmas Tree to adorn the west lawn of the US Capitol building. For 2024, an impressive 80-foot Sitka spruce from the Wrangell District Region of Alaska’s Tongass National Forest has been selected!

The tree’s journey from Alaska to Washington, DC, will involve both sea and land transportation, and along the way, will make scheduled stops in various communities, offering locals a chance to take part in this cherished tradition.

The tree is set to arrive from Alaska on November 22, 2024, while the official lighting ceremony — its 60th anniversary! — will occur on December 3, 2024. Once illuminated, the tree will shine each evening from dusk until 11 pm daily until January 1, 2025.
