You’re invited to immerse yourself in a traditional tea ceremony to celebrate the Japanese Festival of Tanabata (七夕).

On August 6, 2026, at the Franklin Park Arts Center, participants can wear one of the center’s kimonos and decorate a floating lantern on arrival. Quietly observe the tea ceremony demonstration led by Hiromi Johnson and then participate with a hands-on preparation to share matcha tea with friends. Afterwards, you can walk (or drive) to the pond to launch your water lanterns.
