If you’re looking for a weekend trip the whole family will love, the longest sled run on the East Coast is just a few hours away! Blackwater Falls State Park in Davis, WV, recently announced their season, running Thursday-Sunday, from December 18, 2025-March 8, 2026.
This popular state park boasts Blackwater Sled Run — the chance to sled a hill over a quarter mile long! It’s easy to keep the fun going, too. The park has a conveyor belt ride to get to the top easily (great for little ones (& big ones!). Ride up and sled down, it’s fun both ways!

Located in the Allegheny Mountains, Blackwater Falls State Park is named for the amber waters of Blackwater Falls, a 57-foot waterfall. The park has 20 miles of hiking trails, multiple waterfalls, scenic overlooks, and more.
Make it a fun weekend with a start at the lodge at Blackwater Falls State Park, which offers 54 comfortable rooms with sweeping views of the densely forested gorge below. Built in the 1950s, the mid-century architecture conveys a sense of history and blends in with the natural surroundings. The view of the Blackwater Canyon from the back patio is almost as breathtaking as the park’s famous waterfalls.
