FACE Family Academy: Opportunities Ahead

Loudoun County Public Schools’ (LCPS) FACE Family Academy is designed to empower parents with the knowledge and tools necessary to actively engage in their child’s education.

Through a series of online workshops, families can learn more about the school division, strengthen connections with their schools, and develop the skills to advocate effectively for their child’s success.

Each session highlights one of three themes:

      • Family Advocacy: Partnering for Your Child’s Success
      • Championing Student Success: Tools for Family Empowerment
      • Connected and Informed: Navigating School & Division Communication

The program offers eight sessions throughout the school year, from September to May. Register for your preferred one online (each offered on its scheduled date at 12 pm and 6 pm with translation captions available).

Opportunities Ahead: Special Programs & Alternative Pathways
Register: 12 pm6 pm
Every student’s journey is unique, and this session helps families explore academic options that meet a wide range of needs and goals. Families will learn about opportunities such as Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrollment, gifted services, and specialized alternative programs. The discussion will cover how these programs work, who they serve, and how to access them, equipping families with the knowledge to advocate for the best possible fit.

Stay Connected, Get Involved: Building Strong School Partnerships
Register: 12 pm6 pm
This session guides families in navigating the school community and helps them find meaningful ways to get involved. It explains how communication works in schools, who to contact for specific matters, and how to stay informed through various tools, including websites, newsletters, and Family Liaisons. Families will also explore opportunities to participate in PTA activities, classroom events, and school events, discovering impactful ways to strengthen school-home partnerships.

Next Level Ready: Helping Students Transition Through School Milestones
Register: 12 pm6 pm
This session prepares families for key transitions, such as starting Kindergarten, entering middle school, or transitioning to high school. Families will learn what to expect at each stage and gain strategies to support students socially, emotionally, and academically. The session highlights ways to establish routines, promote independence, and maintain connections with school teams during these milestones.

Course Selection: Helping Students Make Informed Choices
Register: 12 pm6 pm
This session guides families through the course selection process and its connection to each student’s academic journey and future goals. Families will learn how to support students in selecting classes that align with their interests, strengths, and long-term goals. Tips will include using the course planner, understanding prerequisites, and asking the right questions to ensure thoughtful decisions.

Learning at Home: Strategies to Support, Challenge, & Inspire
Register: 12 pm6 pm
This session equips families with practical tools to support academic growth at home. Topics include creating screen-free routines, enrichment for advanced learners, and strengthening reading habits across grade levels. Families will also gain strategies for developing effective study habits and preparing for tests that help students build confidence and independence.

Pathways & Possibilities: College & Career Readiness for Every Student
Register: 12 pm6 pm
This session provides families with an overview of the diverse postsecondary pathways available, including four-year colleges, trades, apprenticeships, and entry into the workforce. Families will learn how to support students in exploring interests and setting future goals. The session also covers milestones, including career clusters, course planning, and readiness benchmarks.

Demystifying Assessments: What Families Need to Know

This session gives families a clear overview of the assessments students encounter throughout K–12. It explains the purpose of state and local assessments, how results are used to support growth, and what to expect at different grade levels. Families will also gain strategies to help students prepare, reduce anxiety, and approach assessments with confidence.

Avoiding the Summer Slide

This session helps families explore simple and effective ways to support students’ learning and growth throughout the summer. Strategies include maintaining academic momentum, preventing the “summer slide,” and creating routines that support enrichment. Families will leave with practical tools to help students return to school confident and prepared.
