The National Air & Space Museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA, is getting ready for a birthday! On December 2, 2023, you’re invited to celebrate them turning 20!
This special event offers a range of activities not available during a typical visit. Enjoy a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes in the Mary Baker Engen Restoration Hangar, a conversation with aviation industry pioneer Steven Udvar-Hazy, and hands-on activities for all ages. Plus, onsite parking, normally $15, will be free on this special day, too!
Get to know the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center! Commonly known as the Udvar-Hazy Center, this Smithsonian museum is the second location of the National Air & Space Museum. Like its sister museum, the Udvar-Hazy Center showcases the history and science of aviation, spaceflight, planetary science, and terrestrial geology/geophysics.
Currently, on display, visitors can see almost 2,000 aviation artifacts, 900+ space artifacts, and more than 100 art displays! Featuring two aviation hangars, artifact highlights include the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird (the fastest jet in the world), the Boeing Dash 80 (the prototype of the 707 airliner), the space shuttle Discovery, the Mars Pathfinder Lander prototype, and more!
