Birthday EqualiTEA @ Workhouse Arts Center

In celebration of what would have been Lucy Burns’ 146th birthday, the Lorton Prison Museum featuring the Lucy Burns Gallery hosts an afternoon EqualiTEA to honor Lucy Burns and other suffragists and their fight for the right to vote.
Tea and tea parties are deeply ingrained in the history of the women’s suffrage movement, from planning to fundraising. On July 27, 2025, tea enthusiast Nancy Rodriguez, of Cup & Crown, shares the history of tea from England to the US and how the suffragists incorporated it into their cause, while participants enjoy a variety of black teas and sweet* accompaniments.
A special tour of the Lucy Burns Museum, with its exhibition commemorating the suffragists who were imprisoned at the Workhouse in 1917, follows the tea.
