April marks Autism Acceptance Month, and Goldfish Swim School is making waves by launching the Golden Learners Program, a new initiative developed to ensure that every child, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to thrive in the water.
A Place Where Every Child Can Shine
At Goldfish, every child is seen as capable, unique, and worthy of a safe, inclusive space to grow. The new Golden Learners Program is rooted in that belief — offering a personalized approach for swimmers with cognitive, physical, or developmental needs. Designed with care and backed by experts, the program supports a wide range of learning styles and challenges, helping swimmers feel confident, empowered, and safe.
Built by Experts, Inspired by Families
This curriculum was thoughtfully developed by leading pediatric and aquatic professionals, including Dr. Molly O’Shea, Goldfish Swim School’s official pediatrician and an expert in neurodivergence. Dr. O’Shea shared, “We understand that every child learns differently, especially when there are additional needs involved. This program is the result of years of collaboration with families and professionals to ensure we are truly supporting every swimmer.”
One of those contributors is Dr. Ashlynn Law — a former Goldfish instructor turned pediatric occupational therapist — whose research in aquatic therapy helped shape the techniques used in the program.
Personalized, Compassionate Instruction
Each child enrolled in the Golden Learners Program receives instruction that’s tailored to their individual needs. Instructors use sensory-friendly strategies, gentle guidance, and consistent support to ensure swimmers are comfortable and engaged. While water safety remains the top priority, the program also focuses on building confidence, having fun, and creating a positive relationship with the water.
Working to Eliminate Barriers
“No parent should ever have to ask if their child is welcome,” says Zachary Healy, Director of Regional Operations at several Goldfish Swim School locations piloting the program. “It’s our responsibility to remove as many barriers to access as possible and ensure all children can participate.” This initiative is a step forward in making swim lessons truly inclusive for all families.
Free Resources for Families
In honor of Autism Acceptance Month, Goldfish is offering a free downloadable mini-kit in partnership with Big Life Journal. This exclusive Golden Learners Mini-Kit focuses on emotional and sensory development while nurturing confidence and a growth mindset.
Families can also explore a free 7-day trial of GrowthMinded — an educational platform filled with workshops, masterclasses, and tools designed to support both parents and children.
Now Available at Select Locations
The Golden Learners Program is currently available at participating Goldfish Swim Schools across the country. Families are encouraged to contact their local school for more information.
This April and beyond, Goldfish Swim School is proud to celebrate every child’s journey — and to continue building a world where every swimmer feels accepted, included, and ready to make a splash.
