Volunteer Today: Honor Flights

Scouting Events & Activities in NOVA

By DullesMoms, May 2018

Honor Flight’s mission is to transport America’s Veterans to the Washington, DC metro area to visit memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices, as well as their friends. Created solely to honor these veterans — the Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization that relies on volunteers like you.

Volunteers, individuals, and groups, are always needed at regional airports to greet our nation’s heroes, and in some cases, act as a Guardian. Plus, if you explore each network’s website, you’ll often find more opportunities like mail requests, too.

There are separate networks for each airport:

The Honor Flight Network has served tens of thousands of veterans since they began in 2007. By 2017, there have been 140 Honor Flight Network regional hubs across the United States escorting WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War veterans to see their memorials in Washington, DC. At the end of the 2017 flying season, the network had escorted over 200,000 veterans, free of cost!
